For many years I recommended Rico reeds and thought they were the best value for money and suitable for the Saxaflute however since the increase in popularity in the Saxophone the subject of reeds has exploded. All sax players prefer their own brand and confess to their greatness.
This subject gets talked about throughout the world and never a day passes at an event where some Sax player kindly gives me his opinion on the subject of reeds and mouthpieces. I however have a totally different idea of the ideal reed. The price of reeds has exploded and I feel that there is no reason to buy a box of 10 reeds for £25 to £35 when you are likely to get 2 or 3 out of the 10 that play well.
All leading reed companies are making a killing and offering reeds that may or may not play. Over the last 30 years I have made a few of my own reeds and tried every brand that has been on the market. Today I make my own reeds and play them on my Saxophones as well as the Saxaflutes. While I can’t supply them in large numbers, I am happy to offer them at the best reed price in town and am very happy with the results.
